The house

Built in 1894, still delighting guests

Beaufort House was built in 1894 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Inside, the Queen Anne details survived beautifully: a grand staircase lit by stained glass, carved oak fireplaces, pocket doors and a parlor made for lingering.

Outside, 1.5 acres of landscaped gardens wrap around the porches and gazebo, in a quiet residential neighborhood minutes from downtown. Your innkeeper is glad to help with plans, dinner reservations and local advice, so ask away.

Local guide

Asheville, from our front steps

The inn sits between downtown and the mountains. Here is how guests usually spend their days, with the distances we give out at check-in.

Biltmore House, the French Renaissance mansion at Biltmore Estate

Biltmore Estate

3-mile drive

America’s largest home, finished in 1895 for George W. Vanderbilt, with 75 acres of gardens, a winery and Antler Hill Village. Give the house tour about two hours, and do not skip the gardens next door. Guests of the inn get a ticket discount: buy at biltmore.com/partners and use the promo code beauforthouse.

Downtown Asheville from above, with Pack Square and the city hall tower

Downtown Asheville

Half-mile walk

Independent restaurants, galleries, bookshops and street music, plus venues like The Orange Peel and the Harrah’s Cherokee Center. It is an easy walk from the inn, so most guests leave the car with us and stroll down for dinner.

Layered Blue Ridge mountain ridges at sunset from the Blue Ridge Parkway

Blue Ridge Parkway

Short drive

The Parkway runs just outside the city, north and south. Head out for overlooks, hiking trails and waterfalls, and stop at Craggy Gardens when the rhododendrons bloom. Sunrise and sunset over the ridges are worth the early start.

Across the river

Working studios in old industrial buildings along the French Broad River, where you can watch painters, potters and glass artists at work and buy pieces straight from the maker.

Looking Glass Falls, a waterfall in Pisgah National Forest near Asheville

Waterfalls and Pisgah

Day trip

Looking Glass Falls is one of the most photographed waterfalls in the region and an easy walk from the road. Pair it with a Parkway drive for a full mountain day, then come home to the porch rockers.

Lake Lure with forested mountains behind, near Asheville

Lake Lure

Day trip

A mountain lake ringed by forested peaks, good for a slow afternoon by the water. Ask us at breakfast and we will help you plan the route and where to stop on the way back.

Good to know before you go

  • Biltmore sells out. On peak days, house tour times go early. Buy tickets in advance, and buying a week or more ahead can save money per person. Christmas at Biltmore is the busiest season of all, so midweek visits feel calmer.
  • Walk downtown. At half a mile, downtown is closer than parking is worth. Save the car for the Parkway.
  • Getting here. Asheville is 125 miles from Charlotte and 195 miles from Atlanta via I-40 and I-26. Asheville Regional Airport (AVL) has nonstop flights to more than 20 cities, and parking at the inn is free.
  • Ask the innkeeper. Dinner reservations, day plans, special touches like flowers or Biltmore tickets waiting in your room: the team is happy to arrange them.
